They are known as the ‘Baggies,’ though they had also been called other nicknames like the ‘Throstles’ and the ‘Albion.’ West Brom has a history of winning titles, and has featured in England’s highest football division multiple times. A common theme of West Brom’s home shirt is the presence of navy and white stripes, which also serve as a background on the team crest.

West Brom 23/24 Home Shirts

After experimenting these past few seasons, West Bromwich Albion reverted back to a relatively classic bespoke look. The Puma 2023/24 home shirt went for a dark blue-on-white vertical striping pattern, with the resulting white verticals a bit wider than the coloured ones. Dark blue also coloured the sleeve cuffs, whereas the crew neck opted for white. The shirt took inspiration from the West Brom shirts of the late ’60s, worn by ‘the King’ Jeff Astle and his FA Cup-winning squad.

West Brom 23/24 Away Shirts

West Brom announced not just one but two away shirts, produced by Puma, for 2023/24. The first away shirt had an eye-catching gradient involving a muted red and navy, hiding within it a narrow vertical striping pattern. The second one was a fizzy lime green shirt that had navy accents courtesy of the ‘dripping dots’ visuals across the entire front side.

West Brom Home Kits

West Brom Home 2022/23 KitThe Baggies wore a Puma home shirt designed ‘by the fans, for the fans’ for the 2022/23 season. The jersey retained the traditional blue and white striped look but added some jaggedness to the edges of the blue ones for a buzzing effect. The design took its cue from the famous knitted kit worn by club legends Tony Brown, Cyrille Regis, Bryan Robson and others in the late 1970s. Capping the look, the sleeve cuffs and v-collar shared a narrow blue profile with an offset white striping.

West Brom Home 2021/22 KitWest Bromwich Albion moved away from the traditional striped design of previous kits, wearing instead a home shirt filled in with a broad vertical band on the centre a la Ajax for the 2021/22 season. The said design was dark blue on a white base and contained the first verse of Psalm 23 sang by Albion fans, while the sleeves were also blue. A singular vertical shoulder stripe (part of the 2021 Puma template) in red adorned each side. Also in red were the sleeve cuffs and the rear and sides of the collar. Puma was the manufacturer of the said kit, sponsored by Ideal Heating

The home kit had white base filled with vertical bars of varying width, covering the front and back of the body as well as the sleeves. The barcode-like design was dark blue, the same solid colour that covered the shoulders. On the right chest was a white Puma cat and a fully coloured team badge on the opposite end. The main sponsor’s branding prominently appeared on the front centre. White shorts and dark blue socks with cuffs completed the club’s new home strip.

As such, the stripes of the away were relatively broad, with green ones having one centrally placed and the other two pushed onto lateral sections. A gradual fade toward the middle gave space for the sponsor logo. Additional green details included the sleeve cuffs and round collar.

It was predominantly black, having a solid fill on the raglan sleeves and a large tonal checkered pattern on the body. Adding a dynamic edge to the design was the abstract template diagonals resembling claw-like swipes. Secondary accents of red appearing on the sleeve cuffs, back mesh panel border, and the collar’s rear end completed the looks of the alternate jersey.

The away shirt retained the barcode pattern, combining vertical bands of green and yellow that vary in width and go across the entire shirt including the sleeves. The colours took inspiration from the kit used in the 1992-93 Play-off Final where West Bromwich beat Port Vale 3-0. A horizontal green band covered the shoulders and extends to the sleeves and upper part of the backside. The Puma logos were yellow while both club crest and sponsor livery follow the yellow and green theme. Green shorts and yellow socks completed the entire kit.

West Bromwich Albion were formed in 1878 by employees of Salter´s Spring Works. They were originally called West Bromwich Strollers. In 1880, they changed the name to West Bromwich Albion, which has stayed ever since.

The club have several nicknames: the ‘Baggies,’ probably derived form the baggy shorts they wore or the bagmen collecting the revenue generated from the match fees, and the ‘Albion’ from their name. Another one they had was the ‘Throstles,’ as one is currently present in the crest.

Albion´s league scoring record is still held by William Richardson with 39 goals in the old division one during 1935-36 season. There has been plenty to celebrate since then, with the likes of Jeff Astle, Geoff Hurst, Bryan Robson and Laurie Cunningham pulling on the Albion shirt in the last few decades. Funny man Frank Skinner is one of the clubs famous fans.
