The Venezuela national football team played their first international match against Panama in Panama City, Panama on the 12th February 1938 losing 3-1.
Venezuala play their home games in strip of dark red shirts, white shorts and socks leading to their nickname La Vinotinto because the shirt is considered the colour of red wine. The away strip is another of the common all white. Venezuala is the weakest of all the South American nations having never qualified for the World cup and always going out in the 1st round of the Copa America.
