Carlos Vela was born in Cancun, Mexico in 1989, he started his footballing career with Guadalajara, they had noticed him starring for Mexico as they won the 2005 U17 World Cup, where he also won the golden boot.
Now a regular in the Mexcican national shirt, including appearances at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, his appearances for Arsenal have been limited by work permit restrictions and injury. He was handed the number 11 shirt by Arsene Wenger, a sign of his managers confidence in him.
He joined Arsenal in 2005, but was loaned out to Salamanca and Osasuna in Spain before being granted a work permit in 2008, he would make his competitive debut for Arsenal that year, playing as a substitute in August against Newcastle United in the Premier League. In January 2011 Vela went on loan to West Bromwich Albion for more experience until the end of that season.
