The Turkish Super Lig is the top flight tier of club football in Turkey. The league was founded in 1959 known as the Milli Lig. The league is called the Sportoto Super Lig due to sponsorship reasons. Eighteen clubs play in the league with the bottom three teams relegated to the TFF First league. The winner of the league gains an automatic UEFA Champions League spot in the group stage. Second place gains a third qualification spot and third and fourth qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
The domestic club cups are the Turkiye Kupasi which is a knock-out cup and the Super Kupa which is a one off match between the league champions and league cup champions. The all time top goal scorer of the league is Hakan Sukur who scored 249 goals. Sukur had three spells at Galatasaray. Oguz Cetin has made the most appearances in the league at 503 matches.
The most dominant clubs in the league include Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Trabzonspor and Bursaspor.
