The was previously a Toulouse team, Toulouse FC who were formed in 1937, but this is a different club as that team sold its players & place in French football to Red Star Paris in 1967. The current team was founded as Union Sportive Toulouse on 25th May 25 1970, starting out in French Division 2, wearing red and white.
In 1977 the team started to use it's predecessor name and took on new club colours of purple and white. The purple is a reference the fact that Toulouse is known as the City of Violets and the away jersey for the team is pink, which is because the Toulouse is also known as the Pink City. The club badge features the gold and blood-red Occitan cross as Toulouse is the historical capital of Occitania.
The club play at the 35,472 capacity Stadium Municipal in Toulouse which was built in 1937 and hosted World Cup matches in the 1998 Finals in France.
