Torino Football
Torino Football Club is an Italian professional football club which was founded in 1906 as AC Torino. The club play their home games at the Stadio Olimpico and the team is currently playing in the Serie A. Torino play in maroon shirts with white shorts. Torino are affectionately known as Granata and Il Toro. Their arch-rivals are Juventus.
Torino suffered a great tragedy during their long history as on May 4, 1949, on their way home after a friendly match against Benfica in Portugal, the airplane carrying the Turin club contingent crashed on a hill near Turin killing nearly all the player and managers. They had just recorded their fifth back-to-back Serie A title, and this tragedy is still widely remembered by many Toro fans.
During their long history, Torino have managed to claim seven Serie A titles, their last achievement being in the 1975-76 season. They finished runners-up five times. Torino won the Coppa Italia five times, with their last successful participation in the competition being in 1993. They were also crowned Serie B champions for 3 times in 1959-60, 1989-90, 2000-01. Their best ever achievements in European competitions was in 1991-92 when they finished runners-up in the UEFA Cup.
