Luca Toni Italy kit
Luca Toni (Full Name: Luca Toni Varchetta) was born on the 26th May 1977 in Modena, Italy. Toni began his career with his hometown club of Modena at the age of 17 and made a total of 32 league appearances for the club. Something of a nomad, the striker spent just 1 year each at Empoli, Fiorenzuola, Lodigiani, Treviso and Vicenza. He was regarded as a somewhat average player in his early twenties, hovering around Serie C1 and Serie B, with a brief taste of top flight action for Vicenza. The most notable clubs Luca has played for are Palermo (2003/05), Fiorentina (2005/07) and Bayern Munich (2007 until present).
A remarkable tally of 30 goals in Serie B for Palermo was immediately followed by a first international cap aginst Iceland in August 2004. The following season he scored a remarkable 20 goals in Serie A to further enhance his pedigree. His first big money transfer came in the summer of 2005 when Fiorenina splashed out 10 million euro for his signature. He guided the Viola to 4th in the league although he didn’t get to taste Champion’s League action due to the Calciopoli scandal. In May 2007, German giants Bayern Munich paid 11 million euro for Toni, to form part of their new look strike force with Miroslav Klose.
Toni was part of the Italian squad that won the 2006 World Cup. Currently, he plays for Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga. Toni is relatively tall standing at 1.94 metres. He plays best as a striker in the number 9 shirt. He started his international career in 2004, making 32 caps and 15 goals until today. Toni won the World Cup 2006 with Italy, being rewarded with the European Golden Boot Award in the same year and named in the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team.
