Wayne Mark Rooney was born on October 24th 1985, in Liverpool where he grew up in the eastern area of Croxteth as a fan of local team Everton.
At the European Championships in Portugal 2004 Rooney scored four goals as he led England's attack, but injured his foot in the knock out stages against Portugal in a game England would go on to lose.
In October 2002 Wayne Rooney became the youngest scorer of a goal in Premiership history (since surpassed) when he was just sixteen years old, playing for hometown Everton, that days goal helped end Arsenal's 30 game unbeaten stretch. He went on to win the BBC Young Sports Personality Award in December that year.
When making his debut for Engalnd in February 2003 at just seventeen Rooney was the youngest player ever to pull on an England shirt, colleague Theo Walcott has since broken that record. Rooney is his nations youngest ever goal scorer when he was just 17 years and 317 days old.
Rooney started his career with Everton where he signed his first professional contract, he moved to Manchester United in a 31 million pound deal on deadline day August 31st 2004. That fee is the 2nd highest ever between English clubs.
Wayne started his career in a Manchester United shirt with a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League against Fenerbahce. Rooney won the 2005 FIFPro Young Player of the Year and the 2005 & 2006 PFA Young Player of the Year awards.
