In Porte Alegre, Brazil on 21st March 1980 Ronaldo de Assis Moreira was born, nowadays he is known as Ronaldinho (as he is from the state of Brazil called Rio Grande do Sul). The name Ronaldinho (little Ronaldo) was to distinguish between him and fellow Brazilian footballer Ronaldo.
After being in Spain long enough to qualify he became a naturalised Spanish citizen in January 2007, this means that whichever European club he plays for can now play an additional non EU player, as Ronaldinho is no longer a non-eu player. He was the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 & 2005 and has also been European Footballer of the Year.d Player of the Year.
Ronaldinhos started his football career in the youth team at Gremio pressure from the clubs supporters forced him quickly into the first team.
After offers from around the world including the English Premier League, he moved to Paris Saint Germain in France signing a five-year contract. After impressing at the 2002 World Cup, Ronaldinho was clear that he wanted to move to a bigger club and play in European Cup competition (which PSG had not qualified for). So by July 2003, FC Barcelona had acquired Ronaldinho for £20 million.
Ronaldinho played at every football level, (u15, u17, u20, u23 and senior). His first appearance was against Scotland an u15 match in 1995, by 1999 he was in the senior squad.
