Robert Pires France kit
Born Robert Emmanuel Pires on the 29th of October 1973 in Remis, France, Pires currently plys his footballing trade at Villarreal as a midfielder, usually on the left side, but Pires is capable to play anywhere across the midfield or also as a forward.
Starting off at Metz youth academy, he made his senior debut in 1993, Robert scored 43 goals in 162 appearances with Metz & after winning the French League gained a £5 million transfer to Marseille in 1998. After a mixed second season at Marseille Pires left to Arsenal in 2000 for a fee of 6 milion pounds. Pires was slow to make an impact a highbury, but by the end of the 2002 season had played well enough to earn the football writers player of the year award.
Pires won the league and FA Cup whilst at Arsenal and his last game for the club was at the Stade de France in the Champions League Final, where they lost 2-1 to Barcelona in 2006. After Arsenal only offered a one year contract extension, Pires opted for a new challenge and two year deal by joining Spanish team Villarreal.
