Green Bay Packers Football
Based in Green Bay, Wisconsin the Packers play in the National Football Conference's North Division of the National Football League. They were founded in in 1919 by Curly Lambeau & George Whitney Calhoun. Nowadays the Packers are the only non-profit, publicly owned company in American major league professional sport.
Fans of Green Bay are often referred to as 'cheeseheads', due to cheese production in Wisconsin, the state within which the Packers derive most of their fan base. The name Packers comes from the first sponsor of the team's shirts (the Indian Packing Company).
Green Bay's original colours were blue and gold taken from Lambeau's time at the University of Notre Dame. In 1959, legendary head coach Vince Lombardi changed the Packers shirts to the current hunter green and gold. The G logo seen on the teams helmets was created in 1961.
