The team started life as Millwall Rovers with workers on the Isle of Dogs in 1885. They were originally nicknamed the dockers after the clubs supporters, Millwall got their nickname 'The Lions' from their heroic giant killing displays in the FA Cup at the turn of the 20th Century, in 1900 they reached the Semi Finals an impressive feat as they were a lower league club.
