Born in Porto, Portugal Meireles started his football career in the the youth set-up of Boavista FC, he impressed in the Portugese football in a central midfield role and was eventually signed by FC Porto in 2004, where he would become first choice in midfield. Raul Meireles signed for Turkish club Fenerbahce in 2012.
In August 2010, Raul Meireles moved to Liverpool for a £11.5 million where he was give the number four shirt at the club. He'll always have a fond place in Liverpool fans hearts, scoring the wining goal for the club away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, in the game where Fernando Torres played against his old club for the first time since his £50 million transfer away from Anfield. Raul Meireles then moved to Chelsea following Fernando Torres in the process playing just one season at the club before moving to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in September 2012 for £8 million.
Raul has represented Portugal at both U21 and full international level, gaining his first cap in 2006 and going on to appear at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup for the national team, where he would start every one of Portugal's seven games in South Africa.
