Mansfield Town Football
Nicknamed the Stags, Mansfield Town were formed in 1897 when they were known as Mansfield Wesleyans, changing to the current name in 1910. They were elected to the football league in season 1931/2 and play their home games in the 10,000 all seater capacity stadium Field Mill in Nottinghamshire. Field Mill is known as one of the oldest in the game as records show football has been played there since 1861.
Town play their home games in amber shirts with blue shorts and socks. The Mansfiled away kit is blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks . Like many football clubs, Mansfield can trace their origins to a local church, in this case the Wesleyan church on Bridge Street. The club's best moment to-date came in 1969, when they beat West Ham United, full of international players, three - nil in the FA Cup, from this they progressed to the quarter final stage where they eventually lost to Leicester City.
