Federico Macheda Italy kit
Federico Macheda began his youth career in Italy with SS Lazio. However, shortly after his 16th birthday he was signed by Manchester United as a trainee in the club's academy. He went straight into the U18 side for the 2007/08 season and finished as top goalscorer with 12 goals in 21 appearances. He even made his Reserve team debut as a substitute in February 2008.
He signed his first professional contract with the club in August 2008. The season ahead saw Macheda start in the U18s but he slowly worked his way to becoming a Reserve team regular. Towards the end of the season he scored eight goals in eight reserve matches which earned him a place on the United bench in their Premiership game away to Aston Villa. It was here that Macheda made his name with a fabulous curling effort from the edge of the box to secure a crucial 3-2 victory for United. This saw him on the bench against FC Porto in the Champions League quarter finals. He made another substitute appearance against Sunderland and scored from a fortunate deflection after just 46 seconds. Ever since, he has been a regular on the United bench and will hope to play a large part in the 2009/10 campaign.
Macheda is currently working his way up the ranks of the Italian national scene. He made ten appearances at U16 level scoring two goals in the process. Appearances at U17, U19 and currently at U21 level have followed but he has failed to score currently at any of these levels.
