Playing in orange shirts with black sleeves and details, FC Lorient plays in the French Ligue1. Founded in 1926 it took until 1998 before they broke into the top level of French football. Unlike the length of time taken to gain promotion, FC Lorient quickly secured their first trophy just four years later by winning the Coupe de France, France's premier knockout competition. This is the clubs biggest achievement to date, and came in a 1-0 win over Bastia in the final.
FC Lorient's away strip is made up of a black shirt and socks, with orange shorts. They also have a third alternate strip which is mainly white with pink details. The club has provided playing opportunities for future stars such as Laurent Koscielny of Arsenal & Seydou Keita of Barcelona, amongst other international representatives.
At the end of the 2009 season FC Lorient was situated seventh on the Ligue1 table, their highest ever finish. In 2002 the side made the UEFA Europa League, their only appearance in Europe. However they were eliminated in the first round by Denizlispor of Turkey, who went on to the fourth round before being knocked out by eventual champions Porto.
