Lithuania Football
The Baltic nation of Lithuania played Estonia in their first international fixture in 1923 and continued on the world scence until they lost their independence to the Soviet Union in 1940. Lithuania reclaimed their status as an international football team in 1990, when they played Georgia on 27th May.
Lithuanian's are known as a tall race of people and their main national sport is basketball, meaning Lithuanian football struggles to be popular enough for the nation to do well on the world stage. They have yet to make an appearance at a European Championship or World Cup Finals.
Their finest hour probably came in September 2006 when Lithuania managed to hold current World Champions Italy to a one all draw in Naples, in the Italian's first competitive fixture since their tournament win that summer.
