Kenwyne Jones Trinidad and Tobago kit
Kenwyne Jones began his career in his native Trinidad and Tobago with Joe Public FC. He moved to W Connection FC shortly after for two years until he left T&T for Southampton in 2004. He was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday in December 2004 where he made a great impact and scored seven goals in seven games. He was also loaned out to Stoke City in 2005 where he scored three goals in 14 appearances. The 2006/07 campaign was Jones’ breakthrough at the Saints where he scored 16 goals over the course of the season although he unfortunately missed the club’s Play off Semi Final defeat to Derby due to injury.
In August 2007, Jones moved to Sunderland FC for £6 million and his first goal for the club arrived in September against former club Stoke City. His performances over the course of the season caused him to be linked with several Premier League clubs including Liverpool. An injury over the summer saw Jones’ 08/09 campaign delayed until he made his first league appearance in October 2008. Goals in November and December saw him once again linked to bigger clubs in January but he committed his future to Sunderland by signing a new four and a half year deal. Jones has started the new 09/10 season well in forming a potentially lethal partnership with new signing Darren Bent.
The striker’s international career hasn’t really taken off although he has been a constant presence for the national team. He made his debut in 2003 in a friendly against Finland. His most prolific moment was appearing against England in the 2006 World Cup. However, he was taken off with a knee ligament injury half way through the match. He was named as the Trinidad & Tobago Player of the Year for 2007. However, he has only scored five goals in 42 appearances for his nation to date.
