Kansas City Wizards Football
The Kansas City Wizards are a professional soccer club formed in 1995 when they were known as the Kansas City Wiz, having to change to the current name to save litigation, they are based in Kansas City, Missouri and play in Major League Soccer (MLS). The Wizards play their home games in the 79,450 capacity Arrow Head Stadium, One Arrowhead Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64129. They will have to relocate soon however as the stadium is due for major redevelopment in time for hosting the 49th Super Bowl in 2015.
Wizards Soccer Shirts
The Wizards play their home games in strip comprising blue shirts with a white strip over the shoulders and sleeves, blue shorts and socks. The away strip is the reverse with a white shirt with blue strips on the shoulders and sleeves, white shorts and socks. The blue shirt has featured in major US honours winning the MLS Cup in 2000 and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2004.
Kansas City's Football History
From 1995 until 2006, they were owned by Lamar Hunt, who also owned the Kansas City Chiefs, who also use Arrowhead Stadium. He also had two other soccer clubs in FC Dallas and the Columbus Crew. The club is now owned by OnGoal, LLC a group of Kansas City investors who formed just to purchase the Kansas City Wizards and they are looking to construct a permanent soccer-specific stadium for the team in Overland Park. The other association is to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, as the main character is from Kansas, hence Wizards.
