Ji-Sung Park was born in South Korea and started playing football at the age of eleven. His abilities in the game were very good, but he found many difficulties to start a professional career in football, due to his diminutive physique and a problem of flat feet. A Japanese club, Kyoto Purple Sanga offered him a contract when he was in university. At this club he scored 11 goals in 76 appearances. In 2003, Park and his South Korean teammate Lee Young-Pyo were signed by PSV Eindhoven. The start to his European career was tainted by injuries, but eventually he became a hero for the PSV side, shining especially in the Champions League.
Sir Alex Ferguson was one of the admirers of the midfielder.s pace and skill, and he decided to move for the player in 2005. Park was signed for £4 million from PSV. His runs down the wing for the Red Devils cause havoc in the defence of the opposition. In his home nation South Korea, Park is considered a huge success and an idol for many aspiring youngsters. He was surely one of the figures that played a huge part in the expansion of the Man Utd fanbase in Asia. Until today, Park has made 68 appearances in international games for South Korea, scoring 7 goals.
