Indonesia Football
The Indonesia national football team represents Indonesia in international football. They played their first match against a Chinese side in 1934, when they were called Dutch East Indies, under this name they were also the first Asian side to play in the FIFA World Cup, appearing in France in 1938 and losing to Hungary. Since this high point, they have either failed to enter or when entering qualify, although under the current name of Indonesia they had their best chance but withdrew as they would not play Israel in 1958.
Indonesia play their home games in the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. Merah Putih as they are nicknamed play their home games in strip of red shirts, white shorts and socks. The away strip is all white.
The red shirts of Indonesia are yet to achieve any major honours, as to date they have reached no Asian Cup finals by qualification, though as co-hosts they will feature in the 2007 games. In the local Tiger Cup they have reached three finals in 2000, 2002 and 2004 but lost in each. They have however managed a better record in the South East Asian Games, with wins in 1987 and 1991 and runners up in 1979 and 1997.
