Hamilton Academical is a Scottish football club based in Hamilton.It was founded in late 1974 by the Rectors and pupils of the local school, Hamilton Academy. The club played in Scottish Premier League only few times in history, last of which was in 1988, but on 19th April they secured First Division championship and promotion to the top-class football after twenty years.
The Accies or The Pride Of Lanarkshire had played their home fixtures at Douglas Park since 1888, but moved to the New Douglas Park, which has capacity of 5396, in 2001. Over the years club has won Division One (1985/86, 1987/88 and 2007/08), Division Two (1903/04), Division Three (2000/01), Scottish Challenge Cup (1991/92 and 1992/93), Reserve League Cup (1983/84), Second XI Cup (1933/34), Reserve League West (1997/98) and Lanarkshire Cup 11 times. They also reached Scottish Cup finals twice, in 1910/11 and in 1934/35.
Hamilton home fixtures are played in striped white/red shirts, white shorts and white socks, while away fixtures are played in yellow shirts with green details, blue shorts and yellow socks.
