Gary Neville is a right back who has played at Manchester United for the entirety of his career. The full back joined United as an apprentice after finishing school in 1991. In his first season, he captained the youth team to victory in the FA Youth Cup with a stunning 6-3 victory over Crystal Palace. Soon after, he was introduced into the first team alongside teammates David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes amongst others. Following several seasons as a bit part player, Neville displaced Paul Parker as first choice right back from 1994 onwards. His partnership with David Beckham down the right was one of the most profitable in English football throughout the 1990 's.
So far, Neville has won eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two European Cups and one League Cup in what has been a remarkable career. He was a major part of United 's dominance of the 1990 's that saw them win the Premier League in seven of the first nine seasons. In particular, the first half of Neville 's career will be remembered for the historic treble that was achieved in 1999 when the team won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League all in the same season. Following the team 's dip in the early noughties, Neville was made United captain in 2005. However, he has suffered with injuries towards the latter part of his career missing large parts of the 2007 and 2008 campaigns. These absences have also meant that he has had to give up the United captaincy. The 34-year-old currently has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2010.
In the last decade, Neville has been one of the first names on the England team sheet. The full back has currently earned 85 caps although it seems unlikely that he will add to that total having not played since 2007. Neville 's debut came in 1995 when he was picked by Terry Venables for a friendly in Japan. He followed this up with performances as first choice right back at Euro 96, World Cup 98 and Euro 2000. Unfortunately, a broken foot ended his hopes of appearing at the 2002 World Cup but he was back in place for the 2004 European Championships. The 2006 World Cup was Neville 's last international tournament although he only played in England 's first and last match at the tournament due to injury. His 85th cap arrived during February 2007 in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Spain.
