Ryan Giggs Wales kit
Ryan Giggs is a winger who has played for Manchester United throughout his entire professional career to date. Despite being on the books of Manchester City as a youngster, he eventually signed at Old Trafford after persuasion from Sir Alex Ferguson. Giggs turned professional on his 17th birthday where he was described as the finest prospect in English football since George Best. His debut came in March 1991 as a substitute for Dennis Irwin in a 2-0 defeat before his first goal for the club during the Manchester derby in May 1991.
The winger collected his first piece of silverware in 1992 with a League Cup final victory over Nottingham Forest. Shortly after the new Premier League was created. At this point, Giggs was the first choice winger at United during a period that they were starting to dominate the league. He won the Premier League in the competition's first season before a fantastic league and FA Cup double in 1994. The 1995 season was a low point in Giggs' career as injury restricted him to only 29 appearances in one of United's rare trophy less season. However, another double winning season in 1996 was then followed by a successive league triumph in 1997. Nevertheless, he suffered another frustrating campaign in 1998 as injury restricted him to fewer appearances and Arsenal pipped United to the league title. Even so, the team still manage to win the FA Cup that year to still establish themselves as a leading team.
The highpoint of Giggs' career to date came in the 1999 season. United won a historic treble with the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophy making it's way to Old Trafford. Naturally, United's were unable to maintain a treble winning season every year. However, they did win the Premiership during three of the next four years with Giggs playing a large part in each victory. He won his 4th FA Cup during 2004 but the team was going through a rebuilding phase at this point that had seen Chelsea overtake them as the country's dominant force. 2008 was a memorable year for Giggs as he helped United to theirs and his 10th Premier League title. He also won his 2nd Champions League medal with a penalty shoot out victory over Chelsea which saw Giggs lift the famous trophy. At the age of 35, Giggs added his 11th Premier League title in 2009 which saw his role reduced and change to a more central role. He is currently under contract at United until 2010 which will take him through to his 36th birthday.
