Ghana Football
Known at home as the Black Stars, Ghana have performed well on the world youth stage, they have won the u17 title twice and come 2nd twice at the World Youth Championship. At full international level, they have won the African Nations Cup in 1963, 1965, 1978 & 1982, but it took until 2006 for them to qualify for their first World Cup Finals.
The Ghanaians played their first international match in 1950, beating Nigeria 1-0 in Accra, their biggest win came when putting twelve past Malawi without reply, whilst the Black Stars suffered their worst defeat to Brazil, losing 8-2 in March 1996.
The player to have pulled on the Ghana shirt on the most occassions is Abedi Pele (67 caps), he is also his country's top goalscorer with 33 goals. Tony Yeboah, Michael Essien, Patrick Agyemang and Nii Lamptey are other famous Ghanaians to play for their country. Ghana play in a home shirt of white, with black shorts and socks, the away kit is all yellow.
