Gael Clichy France kit
Gael Clichy is a French defender who is currently the first choice Arsenal left back. In his early years, he belonged to the INF Castelmaurou youth academy before moving to complete his apprenticeship with AS Cannes. Clichy made his full team debut with the French club in 2001. He went on to make 15 first team appearances for the team before they were relegated to the French third tier in 2003. At this point, Arsene Wenger persuaded Clichy's parents to bring him to Arsenal.
The left back joined Arsenal in 2003 as deputy to undisputable first choice Ashley Cole. However, after the England defender suffered a fractured foot in October 2005, Clichy earned some valuable playing time and become a favourite amongst Arsenal supporters. Unfortunately, injury affected his season and he didn't manage to secure the spot as he would have liked. Nevertheless, Cole's 2006 summer move to Chelsea saw Clichy become number one left back at the club. Before Cole's departure, Clichy made 39 league appearances in his three seasons at the club. He made 29 showings alone in the league during the 06/07 campaign after nailing down his place with some impressive showings. He found himself in the PFA Team of the season for the 07/08 season after establishing himself as one of the best left backs in the league. He is still the first choice left back at Arsenal and doesn't look likely to lose that spot for quite a while yet.
Clichy's impressive domestic form earned him his first full France cap during the September 2008 World Cup qualification match against Serbia. He has made two more appearances since then but is behind Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in the current squad pecking order. Before his debut, Clichy made 10 appearances for the u21 team.
