Central defender Gary James Cahill of England is widely regarded as one of the best defenders currently playing in the English Premier League. Born in Sheffield on 19 December 1985 Cahill learned his football skills at Dronfield youth academy before joining the Aston Villa Academy in 2000. Cahill signed for English club Chelsea in 2012 where he would compete with the likes of John Terry, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic for a starting defensive role.
Loans at Burnley and his home town club Sheffield United gave the 1.88m defender plenty of match experience before he returned to the Aston Villa squad. He is well remembered by Villa fans for a stunning volley which he scored against local rivals Birmingham city in 2004. In 2008 Bolton Wanderers signed Cahill to their books for £5million. He repaid the club handsomely the following season by scoring seven goals from the centre of defence.
Cahill's technical abilities, powerful heading, pace and defensive skills ensure he is one of the best defenders in the country. In 2010 he was rewarded with his first England cap against Bulgaria in a 4-0 win at Wembley.
On the 2nd September 2011 Cahill scored his first goal for the three lions against the same opposition he deputised against. In doing so he became the first Bolton player to score for England since 1959.
