Torsten Frings Germany kit

Torsten Frings began his youth career at Rot-Weiss Alsdorf in 1982. He remained with the club for six years before moving to Rhenania Alsdorf in 1988. However, the midfielder moved to third division Alemannia Aachen in 1990 which eventually become his first professional club. He made his first team debut for the team in 1994 and made 56 appearances before leaving in 1996. In 1997, he moved to Werder Bremen where he helped the club defeat Bayern Munich in the 1999 German Cup final. In total, he made 162 appearances during his five year stay at the team.

At the 2002 World Cup, a number of teams were after Frings' signature. He eventually put pen to paper with Borussia Dortmund for a reported £10 million fee. Frings was a regular during the team's successful spell in the early part of the decade. He made 12 appearances in the Champions League and scored ten goals in 47 overall appearances for the club. However, he shocked Dortmund in 2004 by securing a deal to rivals Bayern Munich. Nevertheless, Frings' career never really took off in the German capital as he was constantly played out of position by manager Felix Magath. A year later in 2005, he moved to former club Werder Bremen where he still is to date. His second spell at Bremen has currently seen him appear on 102 occasions with nine goals to his name.

Frings has been a regular in the German set up since 2001. He made his debut in 2001 and has made 79 appearances since scoring ten goals in the process. The midfielder was a regular in Germany's run to the 2002 World Cup final and was present throughout the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008.
