Fiorentina Football
Founded originally in 1926, Fiorentina play in the Italian Serie A and are based in Florence. They play their home games at the 47,282 capacity Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Fiorentina won the inaugural European Cup Winners Cup in 1961 against Glasgow Rangers.
The clubs original kit was red and white, but they changed to today's purple shirt in 1928. Since then Fiorentina have been known as the purple ones. Away from home Fiorentina wear an all white kit with just a hint of purple.
Unable to pay players wages and massive debts meant relegation down the Italian leagues in 2002, but a remarkable recovery aided by the restructuring of Serie B in 2003. By 2004 the team were back in Serie A.
