Finland Football
Most Fin's prefer to play Ice Hockey and the national football team has suffered as a consequence, but there have been some notable wins in world cup qualification, beating Poland in the 1966 qualifiers and Spain in the 1970 qualfiers.
Finlands top scorer and most capped player is Jari Litamen, without who the Finnish national team would still be a relative unknown in World football. He made over 100 appearances and scored 25 goals, captaining the team in his later years.
Finland played their first internation in 1911 against Sweden, losing in Helsinki 5-2. The Finns biggest win came against Estonia in 1922, with a 10-2 win. September 1st, 1940 saw Germany put 13 goals past Finland without reply, putting the Finnish to their biggest ever defeat. Finland have yet to qualify for the European Championships or the World Cup Finals.
