Standard Liege Kits

At a business meeting organised by the club, the current Champions of the Belgian First Division announced their 3-year deal with Diadora for shirt manufacturing. The deal will see the Italy-based sportswear company supplying the club with kits until 2011. Standard Liege finished at the top of an 18-team division, with 77 points, meaning qualification for the Third Qualifying Round of UEFA Champions League.

During the same event, the Belgian Champions unveiled their new home, away and third kits for the 2008/09 season. As part of the club’s tradition, Standard have a red home kit for the coming campaign. Red kits have earned them the nickname Les Rouches (The Reds). All shirts will have a V-neck long collar. Shirts are sponsored by Base. The Standard crest appears in the centre of all 3 shirts and above it the centralised logo of Diadora. The logo of Diadora appears also on the sleeves, while the logos of other sponsors VOO and Eurofinances appear on the back and sleeves respectively. The red home shirt has white piping, and white back-bottom of the shirt. It is complemented by white shorts and red socks.

All shirts have the same design which is rather smart, although the idea of 3 sponsors on the shirt ruins part of the design’s aesthetic pleasure. A particular highlight is the design of the socks which have the club crest at the back. The away shirt is all-white with red piping, and a red back-bottom of the shirt. It also has white shorts but is worn with white socks. The third kit is all blue with golden piping. The back-bottom part of the shirt is half white and half red. It is a good piece of work by Diadora in designing the kits for Standard.
