Special Limited-edition Everton charity shirt selling amazingly fast
The new special Everton shirt with a purple colour, supporting Liverpool Unites charity, is fast becoming a huge success. The shirt was marketed to help raise funds for Liverpool Unites, which is a charity helping underprivileged children, with the aim of collecting £100000. The Liverpool Unites shirt was worn by manager David Moyes as well as midfielder Bilyaletdinov, and is being sold by retail partner Kitbag.

The idea came about when Liverpool and Everton fans, which are generally considered to be fierce rivals, joined together in respect for Rhys Milford Jones, an Everton child fan who was killed. The murder of young Jones occurred on the 22nd August 2007 when he was shot in the neck by Sean Mercer, an 18-year old who has been charged for the crime and is now behind bars. Unfortunately, the life of young Rhys was taken away from him and from his loving parents, but some good comes out of this event (despite being a huge disappointment that a death had to occur!), shedding light on the huge problem in the Merseyside region, which Liverpool Unites seeks to correct by altering behaviour from a young age among children who are likely to engage in anti-social behaviour in the future.

The shirt will be launched on the 30th October, and the club has now announced that pre-orders are being received at a level of 3 times more than those for the home shirt. The comments of Ray Evans, managing director of retail partner Kitbag were:
“When we launched the new Everton Le Coq sportif home kit in June this year we were delighted to break the club record for the best selling shirt launch ever from Everton Football Club.”
“However, we have been astounded by the response we have had from Evertonians since news of the shirt we have produced for the club’s charity of the season was released. Pre-orders are presently running at three times the level of that of the new home strip.”
“This is fantastic news for Everton and Liverpool Unites.”
The shirt also has the backing of the parents of Rhys. Liverpool Unites fundraiser Tom Woolley commented:
“The fact that this has become Everton’s fastest ever selling shirt is great news and really underlines the level of support Liverpool Unites has received from the people of Merseyside.”

As a Liverpool fan I would like the club to join this iniciative, but I think Everton had a little bit more inspiration to move forward with this since Rhys was an Everton fan. We showed our support as well but I hope the Liverpool Football Club takes a little step forward too, since it’s the same city where the incident happened.
