South Africa 2010 World Cup Shirt Officially Unveiled

Posted on November 12th, 2009 in South Africa, World Cup by zebra10

After we had showed you a leaked picture of what would probably be South Africa’s shirt for the World Cup, the tournament hosts have now officially unveiled their shirt the below shirt is now the official shirt in which the team will be playing during the Summer 2010 tournament.

South Africa up to now only took part in 2 World Cup tournaments namely in 1998 and 2002. South Africa were banned from playing in the World Cup during 1966 up to 1990 due to racism problems (Apartheid) were there was a system of racial segregation, a system which led to FIFA banning the team from playing. The team qualified automatically for the upcoming World Cup as hosts.

The South African shirts are manufactured by adidas and are mainly bright yellow with green touches around the collar, arm-pits and sleeves. The adidas logo is featured on the top center part of the shirt while the South African national team crest is featured on the top right part of the shirt.

Only thing I would change is (having been in Joburg recently) that they should have put one ‘Bafana’ on each sock instead of SAFA, as EVERYONE calls the team bafana-bafana there; it would have been a nice local touch to the kit.
