Smart Ball to be used at Club World Cup
The use of a “smart ball” at next month’s Club World Cup in Japan has been given the go ahead by FIFA. This is a first stage test and if it proves a success then it is said that the technology could end up being rolled out in time for the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.
FIFA’s Smart Ball
The idea of the ball is to assist referees in knowing whether the ball has crossed the goal line, ending the debates over questionable goals, it has a chip inside it which should know when it crosses the goal line. This is the first FIFA sanctioned tournament to feature the ball, but it has been tested already and various faults have been ironed out.
