Scunthorpe United Supporters site: claret-bluearmy.co.uk

Scunthorpe United released their new 2007/08 shirts last week and this week we look at claret-bluearmy.co.uk as a featured Scunny supporters site.
The site started back in November 2003. There were a few versions of the site before hand, although at the time, there was only one real Scunthorpe United fansite, and that was Iron Online, which has since fallen into disrepair. The site was started by a couple of friends who regularly update and contribute to the site. The two are still going strong three and a bit years on.At first claret-bluearmy.co.uk had to make do with 20 or so hits a day, which compared to other United sites at the time was not a great deal at all. However, as the site carried on through these times, more and more people started visiting the site. They tried to add features other sites did not include, for example; pictures from the fans at other grounds, travel guides for our fans etc. There have been a number of supporters that the admin are very grateful to, they have always supplied the site with pictures and information, even when they had a pre season tour of Ibiza!
Alex Calvo Garcia, who scored the winning goal at Wembley to send Scunthorpe up in 1999 supplies the site with interviews now and then, it is great to see an ex player who still loves the club!
claret-bluearmy.co.uk work with The Iron Union and have helped with leaflet distribution at a game promoting one of the Union’s schemes. The site also promote the Irish Iron supporters branch and met with them at Glanford Park for the last game of the 2006/07 season. The 11 best players that Matt the admin has seen since he started Scunthorpe United in 1997 aged six are:
1. Joe Murphy
2.Andy Dawson
3. Richard Hope
4. Andy Crosby
5. Nathan Stanton
6. Peter Beagrie
7. Alex Calvo Garcia
8. Ian Baraclough
9. Lee Hodges
10. Billy Sharp
11. Jamie Forrester
Matt says that the side which won last season’s League One is the best side he’s seen and any United fan will tell you its the best side they have seen for fifty years, maybe more!
