Portuguesa new 3rd kit

Posted on September 5th, 2008 in Brazil, Portuguesa by Renato Siviero dos Santos

Associação Portuguesa de Desportos launched their new third kit:

The shirt is black, with two horizontal stripes on the right side of the shirt: one green and one red, the main colors of the team. In the back of the shirt there’s the phrase, in red: “Orgulho de ser Leão” (proud to be a Lion, the way that Portuguesa’s supporters are called).

The Associação Portuguesa de Desportos is a brazilian team founded in August 14th, 1920, in São Paulo. Nicknamed “Lusa”, the team was founded by the union of five teams with Portuguese origins.

They are sponsored by a brazilian company named Penalty. Today the team, which got promoted last season, is the 18th in the Brazilian league.

Surely having so many sponsers must reduce shirt sales, because the kit looks to clattered. Is this shirt for Formula 1?

Yes, just another example of sponsor creep in football. Its only a matter of time before its the norm in the top leagues. You have been warned

Sorry guy but you’re wrong there. The reason that teams in lower leagues in countries like Brasil, even european nations like Norway, Sweden, Hungary etc have loads of sponsors is due to financing their own clubs. TV rights dont pay out as much in these places and they arent exactly guaranteed to play european football and so forth which generates further income, therefore must rely on their players looking like advertisment boards in order to make money.
