Portsmouth 2008/09 Home Kit
Current FA Cup holders Portsmouth have unveiled their new home kit in a busy week for the club. The new home shirt will be blue, which is the traditional colour of Pompey, and will have a gold trim. This will commemorate the club’s 110 years anniversary and will only run for one season, the 2008/09. Canterbury are the shirt designers and manufacturers, while OKI Printing Solutions will be the shirt sponsors. The text ‘110 YEARS’ will appear in the centre, just under the centralised club crest. The shirt will be complemented by blue shorts and blue socks.
After their capture of Liverpool & England striker Peter Crouch, which will see him pair up with international teammate Jermain Defoe, the tall striker was presented with his Number 9 new home shirt.
The comments of Portsmouth director Bruce Vandenberg were:
“The all-blue strip will commemorate the 110th anniversary of Portsmouth Football Club. When the club reached 100 years, difficult financial circumstances meant it was not possible to mark such a historic date significantly. But the huge advances the club has made in the last two-and-half years mean we can now do that for our 110th year. The all-blue strip already has fantastic connotations. We won our FA Cup semi-final against West Brom – played on the exact 110th anniversary of the club – wearing all blue. And then, back at Wembley, we won the FA Cup final against Cardiff wearing all blue. The club understands the importance of colours to fans. That’s why we consulted with supporter groups before the decision to wear all blue for one season was made. For the 2009/10 season, we will go back to our traditional home colours of blue shirts, white shorts and red socks.”
The club is now receiving pre-orders, with the shirts being delivered as from the 30th July 2008. The club is also giving two lucky supporters, who pre-order the new home kit before the 30th July, a flight to the beautiful island of Malta, the Heart of the Mediterranean: a heaven for sun & sea lovers, with breathtaking scenery and a vastly rich history, which makes it the ideal destination for a relaxing holiday. 110 years? That’s a bit of a random anniversary to release a commemorative shirt for… Makes Spurs’ ‘125 years’ from last season look sensible!

As a United fan, that is the best kit in the Prem this season. I was skeptical of Cantebury, but they have delivered again on this one.

Very, very nice kit. The blue and gold compliment each other beautifully. And i’m a St.Mirren fan.
Its all ways good to hear people praising us. We look to have the missing piece in the team in crouch. Looks promising, although im a bit wary of the demands of european football affecting our league form. As for the kit, i do like it although i dont like the way the gold on the shirt is lighter then the gold of the number. Doesnt quite look right.
Sorry - don’t like the gold bits at all, and there’s far too much of it on that kit.
I think it’s about time the FA limited the amount of logos manufacturers can put on their kits. One is enough! Why do you need one on the chest as well as an oversized one on each shoulder? I blame Puma for this trend, and Umbro overdid it with the logos last season too. Where will it end?

I have to say smurf…i think we’ve proved we’re far from an awful team and it’s nice to hear people encouraging us. As for the kit I, like alot of fans, am not really happy about the intrusion of gold into our kit not to mention the all blue thing. I don’t really think its the best of kits to represent us in our debut season in europe but at least its only for one year! As for the 110 years thing…it was decided that the club’s 110th anniversary would be marked as we were not in a financial position (on the verge of going bust) to celebrate the 100th anniversary. How times change

I like the shirt apart from the silly pointless gold line on the back of the shirt - i also think pompy need to have white shorts and red socks because its what you associate them with rather than the all blue - but okay kit! (from a Fulham Fan).

110 years as an anniversary, maybe that means something to its russian owners. I’ll speak for us backward Gregorian westerners by saying it smells of cheap commercialism - a silly way to get the punters to get their new Crouch, Wright, shirts. The shirt is halfway decent I should have a giggle at the gold - but its Portsmouth. Best of luck to ‘arry and the lads.
Strangely enough I think this looks quite like the current Scotland home shirt, which isn’t even the same brand.
Love the shirt, I am now a pompey fan, used to be Liverpool but will follow Crouch where ever he may go. This season will say it all, go Crouch make me proud. xxxxx
Like this shirt! But I don¡t understand the english habit of badge-changing every few years. Did really need Pompey a new one? The former crest was lovely, but the new one is cheap.

the kit looks great the new crest looks wicked on and off kit much more ‘media’ friendly and i’m going to tip pompey for a uefa cup semi final spot this year. maybe spurs should mark an 47years since they last won the league

I went to my first pompey match when I was 5 weeks old, and i’m still loving it now. It will be great to see them wear a different but classy kit next year, as the last few year’s kits have been pretty plain and boring!
And all those who don’t like it ’cause its not the traditional blue shirts, white shorts and red socks thing. The orginal colour was salmon pink, so I think we shouuld count ourselves lucky
Oh and just to point out to Augustus and Tim, if you had actually read the top of the page where it says about the kit, it does give a reason as to why we pompey are celebrating 110 years!

This is by far the best kit for next season. I love this kit so much an I’m a Liverpool fan. Boss kit and for once the gold actually suits this kit (no offence to the other pompey kits with gold on but they never really suited it). Good luck Pompey!

I think its a classy kit, agree would look better with white instead of gold though. those people moning about tradition all the time , who cares! its only 4 one year and will be a nice change for pompeys england supreme team winning europe.
