Olympique Lyon 2009/10 Home Shirt

The French club is one of the best in the whole of France. Between 2002 and 2008, it has been crowned Champion of France 7 times in a row, which is a remarkable achievement and a record in French football. When the club was expected to make it 8-in-a-row this season, their form did not match that of the previous years, and they finished the 2008/09 season in 3rd place, behind winners Bordeaux and runners-up Marseille. Lyon collected 71 points from 38 matches, winning 20, drawing 11 and losing 7. Their placing means that the ex-Champions do not qualify automatically for the Champions League group stage, but will have to go through the play-off round which could prove to be tricky. Out of 19 home games played at the Stade de Gerland, Lyon won just 10. This is something that will have to be improved if they want to win back their status of Champions.

The new home strip in which the team will play the entire 2009/10 campaign has been revealed. It is designed and manufactured by English brand Umbro, recently a subsidiary of Nike, and uses the three colours associated with France and the club: red, white and blue. The home shirt has a white base colour, with the horizontal red and blue stripe in the middle. The logo of Umbro appears on the top-right of the shirt in blue. The main sponsor of the shirts is Novotel, and its logo is blue and placed just above the stripe. Secondary sponsors Apicil have their logo below the Umbro badge. The shirt has a circular white collar, a red diamond detail on the right shoulder, and a blue diamond detail on the left shoulder. The shirt is complemented by all-white shorts, except for red diamonds on the right side and blue diamonds on the left side, and white socks with a red and blue horizontal stripe at the top.

  13. cannon06:

I thought it was Lyon’s tradition of having the stripes vertical? Or is that something that’s just been done a lot recently?
