France to wear Nike shirts from 2011
Nike have been appointed official Team France and French Football Federation equipment supplier from 1st January 2011 to the end of the 2017-2018 sports season. Three companies submitted offers to the French Football Federation by their 13th February deadline, adidas, Nike and Airness, but Nike was the preferred bid and was the most financially advantageous to French football.
Nike’s National Kit deal with France
Paying €2.5 million per season with additional bonuses linked to performance of the national team at European & World Cup tournaments, the new Nike contract will bring to the Federation four and a half times more money than their current adidas contract. adidas will continue to work with the French Football Federation until the end of 2010, it will be a bit strange not to have the tricolore three stripes on the shirt in the future.

Adidas has produced some decent kits for France over the years; the 1984 kit is a classic.
I wish I could say the same about Umbro’s kits for England, but I can’t. The FA should have ditched them after making that awful grey away kit in ‘96.

Agree about Umbro’s grey Euro 96 kit. The worst in England’s history, closely followed by the all maroon thing with the MASSIVE wing collar from a year or two before. Time for Umbro to go.
Shame to see the end of the France/Adidas team connection. They’ve produced some magnificent shirts for Les Bleus over the years.

I liked Umbros 1996 England goalie kit which resembled a packet Trebor Refreshers especially as I was on LSD during the mid 1990s

that Euro 96 shirt was awesome at least it was a bit different to the plain boring red. The light blue one from the 70’s was good quality aswell. The next England away shirt should be black and white stripes just for something a bit different.

its been 50 years since a domestic trophy we won the fairs cup(ufea cup) in 1969

2-1 1999 vs bayern, you dont get over that, also 9-0 vs ipswich, 1-8 vs forest, the season where we put 6 past newcastle in 1 game and 5 in another and beat liverpool 4-0, 6-1 vs arsenal. these are games you do not forget
toon fans are maybe the most passionate in britain i wouldnt go as far as the world. for example….some of the big teams in Rio, partizan & red star belgrade, turkish teams….id say theres no passion in spanish football

No, No, No, England MUST stay with Umbro. Umbro shirts are more comfortable than Nike and Adidas, but more importantly Umbro are an English company, if people took pride in British things, and brought British made things we would not lose our manufactoring base to China, and watch Vauxhall, Fords Rover, and Peugeot pull out of Luton, Dagenham, Birmingham & Coventry respectively. England wear English designed shirts, which is better than wearing German or American ones.

Sorry to see such a wonderful partnership come to an end. However, I am looking forward to seeing what Nike will do with the French account. Yes, that grey 96 shirt was well out of order, like Venables managing England – unless there is some historical reason for that colour that I don’t know about.
