Newcastle United to look at manufacturer and sponsor alternatives

BBC reported the news that it is likely that Newcastle will not be sold by Mike Ashley, and he will in fact inject a further £20 million into the Premier League-relegated club. Newcastle are the current Championship leaders, and look set to push hard for promotion back to the Premier League of 2010/11. The new plans for the club saw Chris Hughton given the nod to remain in a managerial position for the foreseeable future, and the possibility of renaming St James Park to gain more revenue from a sponsor.

A statement was issued by the club on Tuesday, outlining the plans for the future of the club. Part of the statement is: “The club aims to maximise its commercial revenues; this includes renegotiating its club sponsor and kit deal, which expire at the end of this season, as well as welcoming offers for the stadium naming rights for next season.” Hence, we understand that Newcastle will be looking at various possibilities when it comes to finding a new kit sponsor and manufacturer. The present deals with Adidas as shirt manufacturer, and with Northern Rock as the shirt sponsor will expire at the end of the present season. Promotion to the Premier League would ensure that the club obtains excellent new deals. The club has been sponsored by Adidas since 1995, and we believe that the deal will actually be renewed. Not the same can be said for Northern Rock, the now-nationalised UK bank which was previously on the brink of bankruptcy due to the mortgage financial crisis had it not been for the UK government’s intervention. The bank has only been sponsoring the club since 2003, and it is understood that Newcastle are already looking at possible replacements. Further developments are expected in the coming months.

We should not get rid of adidas. The kit wouldn’t look rigth without the 3 stripe shoulders.

The current toon shirt with a different sponsor would look great if we kept the Adidas kit deal for next season. However as much as I hate to say it I doubt a massive Sport outfit suchas Nike or Adidas would be interested in getting involved with such a mess of a club unless Newcastle do actually get promoted to the premier league.
