Newcastle United Announce Kit Deal with Puma

Puma and Newcastle United Football Club have announced a new partnership that sees them become the official supplier and the official licensee of replica merchandise for Newcastle United. The new deal will see Puma supply team kit, replica kit and training equipment for two years starting from the beginning of the 2010/2011 season. Earlier, we brought you news that Adidas will no longer be supplying Newcastle’s kits after a 14 year partnership.

Barry Webber, Commercial Director of Newcastle United FC, said: “We are very proud to have entered into a relationship with PUMA. They are an ideal partner for us with the experience and ability to deliver a top class product for the Club and its supporters.

Tony Ward, PUMA UK Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be embarking upon a two-season partnership with Newcastle United which will give PUMA great exposure throughout the football community. With innovative product, referencing Newcastle’s strong heritage, coupled with great service, we are confident of an excellent partnership.

“Newcastle United is a club with a passionate and loyal fan base and we look forward to the start of the new season and the new kit making its first appearance.”

  1. kopite for life:

haha!! so the geordies are going to have their kits supplied by a company whos logo is a big BLACK CAT!!! cant see that going down well with the die hard fans!!

  2. Chris:

    The logo doesn’t really matter.

  3. Mags:

IMO It’ll be a white ‘cat’ on a black stripe anyway

  4. The_magpie:

Wow. this really sucks. MIke Ashley screws us over again. Adidas made some nice kits over the years and now we’re stuck with this junk for the next two years

  5. toonfran:

Not really pleased that we are getting rid of adidas but maby it is time for new people and new designs to come in and do something different with black and white stripes only thing im really concerned about is the price of the new kits I am sure the puma shirts can cost 50 quid each which will put some fans off.

  6. JWheelie12NUFC:

All I can say is I’m pleased it’s a two year deal. Then we can get Nike or Adidas because Puma is too small for a club of this size.

The Northern Rock deal is even more of a shocker though.

  7. Bernie - London:

With the exception of Chelsea, all the other Adidas sponsored teams are having a “shocker” – Barcodes, Scousers and Boro.
Newcastle is to provincial to ever become a global brand.

  8. Watford Boy:

    ermm yeah cool…………………

  9. charles:

    puma?
oh lord. their designs are frankly awful and they have a stinking black cat as their logo
if adidas left, i would’ve preferred umbro or le coq sportif rather than those crapheads

  10. Andrew:

I’m not bothered. Adidas really phoned in the last two kits, so maybe Puma will actually pull their finger out and design a nice kit for us. Personally I think our last, good strip was the Asics 93-95 strip.

  11. brn442:

The adidas 95 strip was pure class. The little dassler’s new strips will be interesting indeed – doubt they’ll be classics.

  12. AT - CUFC:

Seems odd as doesn’t Mike Ashley’s company own some sort of rights to adidas (and therefore sells there kits in his shops). As many have said, perhaps it’s a way of further distancing himself from the fans.

Agreed about the Asics strip from the 1990′s. Proper stripes and the Blue Star Logo.

  13. Alex:

I’m not bothered either, it’s a new era so why are people complaining?

  14. Chris:

I’m looking forward to the puma kits. Apart from the Spurs one, all the other Puma kits I’ve seen are really cool. The fact it’s a “black cat” makes no odds whatsoever.

  15. Dave F:

Aye the last few addidas kits have been pap. Most of pumas i’ve seen have been better. And anyone can see they won’t put a black cat on it. They will want sell some shirts so thats a none starter. Nobody like the home shirt that we had during Sir Bobbys champions league campaign? Classic black sleeves!

  16. toonfan:

get a grip gents, it’s who’s in the top not what we look like…. as for the black cat, they don’t matter anymore anyway. so addidas were good ….who gave us that yellow garbage ? addidas

  17. robbo:

best kit we have ever had was when we were sponserd by newcastle brown ale, i would giv my left nut 2 be sponserd by them agen. the shirt was awsome and i have them all, puma aint so bad, lets hope they do better than the yellow away shirt ahh lads!!!!!!!!!

  18. Kieran:

IMO PUMA make some good kits and the Adidas kits werent the best, although I dont think it’s their fault really we need a sponsor that doesent leave us with a big black/white box through the kit!

  19. NuFc:

Puma are the worst, Adidas have been with us for years now and given us our best kits, they understand our passion, like on our current home kit having the seahorses on the bottom. Puma won’t give a **** about the club, just advertising themselves, their current kits have three Puma logos on the shirts alone, two on shoulders and one on front. Its a disgrace.

  20. Geordiekev2587:

I liked the umbro kit we had we won division one and got promoted up to the preimer league the first time round in the early 90′s which we wore from 1991 – 1993. When King Kev was manager.

  21. Paddy:

I think the puma kits will be awesome.i really love adidas but id rather switch to puma than nike. every1 ive seen wearing anything nike refers to football as soccer! Puma are very creative

  22. Beverley20ESPINOZA:

If you want to buy real estate, you will have to get the loan. Moreover, my brother commonly uses a credit loan, which occurs to be the most rapid.

  23. shafiq:

I love the new puma kit. awesome stuff.

  24. jim c:

No problem just put a white cat on black stripe !!!
