Newcastle United 2013/14 Puma Special Edition Kit

English club Newcastle United wore a special edition kit for their members in a halved black and white design during a pre-season friendly against Portuguese side SC Braga. Puma and Newcastle United released their home and away shirts last month which will both boast their new shirt sponsor Wonga.

The special edition members shirt was used to celebrate and remember the late and great Sir Bobby Robson who managed the club from 1999 to 2004. The match ended 1-1 with club captain Fabricio Coloccini scoring for the Magpies. Football League chairman Greg Clarke said “Sir Bobby Robson was a true Football League legend both as a player and a manager.”

The club also revealed their latest signing Loic Remy who is on loan from Queens Park Rangers prior to kick off. Loic Remy joins the array of French footballers at the club including Mathieu Debuchy (Shown above), Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan, Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Yoann Gouffran, Sylvain Marveaux, Massadio Haidara and Romain Amalfitano.

Nice actually. Would be great to see it used in the league.

  2. Bernie Balm:

Another cynical attempt by mike Ashley to milk some more money out of the toonies.

Does any of the proceeds go to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation?

I think SBR was a traditionalist, he wouldn’t thought much of this top.

  4. CWR:

I’m not so sure it was Sir Bobby Robson inspired, the club tweeted before the game that it’s a ‘Member’s Shirt’. Pretty much means you have to be a member to buy it. They did this a few years back too where they released a ‘Member’s’ home shirt with a similar gold badge. The match was played on Sir Bobby Robson Day but that’s the only link really.

  5. Kermit:

Googled this shirt to find out what the scoop is. Thought it might have some historical significance, but it hasn’t:

“Newcastle United played Braga yesterday at St James’ Park in a rather uneventful 1-1 preseason draw, but one of the talking points coming out of the match was Newcastle United’s choice of strip. They wore a new fourth strip, which their club describes as a “new members home kit.”

According to Newcastle United fan website NUFC.com, “The unfamiliar kit Newcastle wore was later described on the official website as the ‘new members home kit’ – in other words a fourth different kit for this season that in all probability will never be worn competitively.

“The actual design of the shirt isn’t new, with an almost identical shirt available in club stores recently – but with no Wonga logo and costing just a fraction of what this new one will undoubtedly retail for.””

‘Wonga’ so Wonga…..in every way imaginable!

  7. sarah:

Can i buy this shirt anywhere?

  8. Toon Toon Toon:

Divint like that mind. Not a Toon top.

  9. Doctor's Your Uncle:

I like it. But the sponsor ruins it. Wonga is the worst sponsor ever…
