10/12 England Away Kit

New Three Lions logo for new 09/11 England shirt

Posted on March 2nd, 2009 in England by admin

The Times Online are reporting that the English crest which is shown on all England national team shirts has been given a makeover. The crest was used for the first time in 1872, when England played Scotland in the world’s first international game. The crest has been redesigned with the Three Lions redrawn getting more colour on their tongues and claws, the blues are lighter and more authentic tudor roses have been added.

The FA’s group commercial director, Jonathan Hill said: “We have taken great care in updating the FA’s Three Lions crest. The new designs have been modernised for today’s digital world, whilst also ensuring that they reflect the rich heritage and traditions of the crest.”

The revelation of the new badge should put to bed the idea that any of the shirts that have been shown so far are the new England kit, as they do not encorporate this new design. The new Umbro England 2009/11 Home shirt is available for pre-order from today.

Rubbish – looks like something from a fake kit!

Have they also ditched the word “England” from above the crest?

Except for the lighter blue, I see no difference at all.

    Was this really necessary?

    What a waste…

Why change it after 137 years? its worse than the original. Just typical of football these days. They change everything and its usually for the worse. They’ve changed the colour to light blue, does this mean Englands shorts will be light blue too?

    Awful Crest.

It looks like a pre-21st century design before they used computers to add symetry and detail.

It’s too bold, as crest used to be because they had to be hand sewn and machines were not suffisticated enough to handle detail.

It’s a bad colour as well, back to the early 90’s tosh.

A step backwards. Looks as if a kid drew it. A marketting ploy.

It’s much better in dark blue. Hopefully the shorts will remain dark blue. It looks much better.

It’s just a slight color change. Why is everybody freaking out?

  14. Brendan said,

Take a chill pill, all englands crests have gradually changed from light and dark blues over our history.

hope they did not spend too much money on costy, posh designers creating it. Very very similar to me. Not too revolutionary as the arsenal logo makeover a few years ago, for example. There was nothing wrong with the old England Logo, nothing. And the new Umbro Logo being redesigned made me laugh. What a revolutionary improvement. WOW. Landmark in Kit manufacturing :-)

I don’t like it at all… It looks like an early exit in the group stages of the world cup hahaha

The old one hasn’t given us any plenty trophies for a while; hence this concept. Everyone wearing it scores a goal. 11-0 every match, when no subs are used!
