New Norway national shirt and crest
The Norwegian FA was the target for massive criticism after presenting the new shirt for the Norwegian national team. The shirt is produced by Umbro, and will most likely be worn from 2008-2010.
The thing that has caused all the uproar is the fact that the Norwegian FA (NFF) has chosen to abandon the use of the Norwegian flag on the shirts. Norway’s national heroes has been playing with the flag on the chest since the 1920s, and the decision to use the newly designed crest containing the NFF logo and a dragon (obviously based on old norse carvings found on viking ships and stave churches) has unleashed the anger of Norwegian football fans.

Head of NFF, karen Espelund, states that only 7 of the 50 best national teams uses their respective flags on their shirts, and Norway has been the only ones to use the flag exclusively. Only time will tell wether or not that should be enough to remove a tradition some 70-80 years long, as fans already threaten to refuse to buy the shirts until the flag has been restored.
