New Norway crest dropped

Posted on May 23rd, 2008 in Norway by reddevilrooney

After issuing the new Norwegian crest that was supposed to be placed on the national team’s new shirts, the Norwegian Football Federation has decided to back down on its decision, after the design of the crest brought about a series of criticism and complaints from the people. The Norwegian footballers had always played with the national flag:

Norway

on their shirts. However, the new crest that was issued this week ignored this fact totally, even though the colours used are basically the same as the flag. The is the unveiled crest:

The Norwegians compained heavily about this new design, and the NFF said that it will consider the complaints and decided to drop the unveiled design. The NFF is in the process of designing a new crest for the National team that incorporates the flag in the design. Until the design is completed, the Norwegian national football team will play with the national flag on their shirts.

“We have decided to work to develop a new emblem to include the flag, so that players can continue to play with the flag on their shirt.”

“The engagement [between the Norwegians and the Norway national team] shows that the national teams are important flag-bearers for the Norwegian people, and there are many people who are not pleased with the new emblem and want the flag back on the shirts, so it’s something we have to take seriously. I can promise that the contributions will be taken into account in the further process to shape a unique identity for Norwegian international football” – Sondre Kfjord, President of the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF)

What’s wrong with new logo? Looks nice and modern to me. Crazy dudes and dudettes!

Can’t ignore tradition. It would be like the English team playing without the 3 lions. I don’t mind the new logo, but it can not replace the flag. I’d rather have them switch kit manufacturer, don’t like Umbro…

All credit to the Norwegian Federation for listening to the fans, other footballing organisations would do well to take note.

They should use the crest in the left side and the flag in the right. Cameroon uses two badges and Poland too I believe

FDV: Too much dragon, not enough flag. But a decent effort. You already sent it to NøFF, I reckon?

Sea Dragon definitely can reflect the Norwegians’ strong background on sea , i dont see any problem for the new logo. Without new logo, I will not buy the Norway shirt.

I like the dragon, and find the flag to simplistic. The other issue would be copywrite. Which a number of clubs have had when they use Council shields as badges.

yo_soccer, you mention tradition, but that serpent design is linked to the Viking age, which is something that predated the Christian virus that was brought into Norway (and eventually made up the central design of the nation’s flag) by centuries. The Norwegian flag including a cross is basically OK-ing the slaughter of many, many Norwegian people simply because they didn’t want to give up their gods to worship one invisible man in the sky who apparently watches us all and sends us to a fiery place of torture if we piss him off.

Norway’s crest should just be a Viking’s head or a longboat or something similarly pagan, traditional and awesome. **** Christianity.

Why don’t they do what the Norwegian did in the past (70s or 80s I think?) – Put the NFF crest on the right and the Norwegian flag on the left… simple…
