FSV Mainz 05 are a German football club currently playing in 2. Bundesliga, relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2006/07 season after a 3 year stint. They have announced a change in kit suppliers with a long-term deal with Nike taking over from a 7 year deal with Italian sportswear company Lotto. Mainz 05’s new home kit retains the traditional club colours of red and white, with Lotto’s striped design of the current season being replaced with a halved design. The away kit will be all black.

“We are ready to work with Nike’s new ways to make significant progress and are looking forward to working with the largest sporting goods manufacturer in the world,” 05 manager Christian Heidel said of the new deal, “I want to thank Lotto for seven years of successful and friendly partnership.”

Bernd Schmider, spokesman for Nike’s team sports department, commented on the new deal also, stating “The 1 FSV Mainz 05 stands for modern offensive football and therefore adapts to the philosophy of Nike. We look forward to the partnership with this ambitious club.”

The new jerseys will use Nike’s famous Dri-FIT technology, breathable mesh which caters for the needs of the modern footballer. The new deal also provides 05 with a new match ball - the Total 90 coach - which will be used for league and DFB Cup games.
