Munich air disaster 50th anniversary

Posted on January 10th, 2008 in Manchester City, Manchester United by admin

When Manchester City play at Manchester United on 10 February the game will be a commemoration of the fact that it is fifty years since the Munich air disaster.

Black Ribbon & No sponsors on City Shirts

We have already discussed how Manchester United will be wearing old style shirts and shorts without sponsor logos and numbers as a mark of respect to the Busby babes. We can now confirm that Manchester City’s shirts on the day will incorporate a black ribbon and the sponsor’s kit branding will have been removed.

On the 6th of February, 1958 eight Manchester United stars and former Manchster City goal keeper Frank Swift were among 23 who lost their lives when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed as it attempted to takeoff at the Munich-Riem airport in Munich after refueling on their way back from a European Cup game against Red Star Belgrade.
