Marseille Auxerre Kit Clash

Posted on September 22nd, 2007 in Marseille by 01news

Auxerre won two nil against Marseille on Saturday night, with both goals scored by Niculae. Looking at the pictures of the match you would be forgiven for thinking it was Auxerre A vs Auxerre B. Yes the team wearing the brown and pink away Auxerre shirts is in fact OM you can see their striker Djibril Cisse wearing one in the picture below.

Marseille wear Auxerre away shirts

Olympique Marseille in Auxerre's Shirts

Apparently the away shirts that Marseille took to the French Ligue 1 fixture were deemed to look too much like the Auxerre home kit, so Olympique had to wear their rivals shirts.

The Marseille’s home shirt is white, whilst their away kit is white with light blue vertical stripes, somebody probably should have thought about the potential for a clash here before the match, I am sure a lot of fans had already seen the chances of a problem somewhere down the line. It was a shame OM didn’t have their bright orange third shirt which they wore on Tuesday night, that certainly wouldn’t have been a clash.

Didn’t something similare happen in the ’70’s or ’80’s when France played Italy? Must be something that the French do.

Bertie, that was France v Hungary in the 1978 World Cup Finals.

France’s blue shirts and Hungary’s red were deemed to be too close for those watching in black and white. France eventually borrowed a local team’s green and white shirts.

Before a recent match in the Danish league btw. FC Nordsjaelland and FC Midtjylland, the Midtjylland bus was broken into and all their kits stolen. Nordsjaelland wouldn’t lend them their away kit, so Midtjylland had to buy their opponent’s away shorts from the club shop and play in plain white T-shirts with handwritten numbers. Meanwhile, they choppered in replacement kits, so the could change to their own kit during half time.

I don’t understand - with millions of pounds in the modern game and with player shirts mass produced, you would think that clubs would take a extra / alternate batch of kits to matches.

they probably did bring that ugly orange affair. And someone probably gave them a choice: ugly orange or ugly brown and pink. Ugly brown and pink won.

Seriously, brown and pink?!?!?! It looks like a neapolitan ice-cream.
