Man Utd to add Club World Cup Winners Badge on Shirt.

Posted on March 11th, 2009 in Manchester United by Ben1991

In recognition of Manchester United’s Club World Cup triumph in Japan, FIFA President Sepp Blatter will present them with a special Champions badge before United’s clash with Inter Milan on Wednesday evening.

The white emblem features an image of the Club World Cup trophy and is inscribed with the words “Manchester United Champions 2008.” It will be worn on the shirts during Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup games until the new winner is decided later this year.

Sir Alex Ferguson is immensely proud of his team’s achievement in becoming the first side to win the trophy and says his players will be honoured to don the badge: “It was an enormous honour to become the first British club to win the FIFA Club World Cup and this is a badge we will wear with great pride”

An amazing achievement, to think they played two games against the other two best teams in the world!

Incredible. Will any other team in the world match this kind of superhuman achievement, probably not?

Who am I kidding, this is one of those silly money making marketing orientated tv satisfying ego boosting corporate PR brand awareness tin pot cups that nobody gives a hoot about.

And then you go and spoil it by saying something stupid like “have a badge on your shirt”!

    Move beyound yourself FIFA

Which, I’m pretty sure, is the argument which kept English teams out of the first European Champions’ Cup.

    Give it time.

Haven’t seen any other english clubs there, is that maybe apart from liverpool 2005 none have won the champions league. I think it might, they didnt play the best teams in the world there but they WERE there because they beat the best teams in europe who are the best in the world.

  11. Mayer said,

Why can’t they wear it for Premier League games?
AC Milan also wore a patch similar to this one but not the same.

  12. Jack said,

Glad we’re wearing this for more games, at first I thought it was a one off against Inter.

Winning the world club title is an incredible achievement. For all you who think otherwise, should find a new sport.

  14. Team Xtreme said,

you are right it is a meaningless and pointless achievement and is also a micky mouse cup. i mean to win it you only have to play superbly well in your league to qualify for the following years champions league then go onto win that too just to get into the competition. when you get there you then have to face off against 2 of the best teams in asia or south america. so it takes 2 years of hard work to even get into the thing.

When liverpoo won the champions league they finished 5th in the league that year at least united won both the league and the european cup. anyone can play well for 13 games it takes quality to play well for 51

  15. brn442 said,

Point exactly extreme – assuming you’re being sarcastic – most of the hard work is just qualifying for the honour of competing in japan – that alone makes the cup a wonderful achievement. Americans are used to calling themselves “world champions” of every sport the rest of the world could care less about. This cup while not perfect is good for the sport. Get rid of the confederation’s cup as its redundant.

  16. Team Xtreme said,

glad you got the sarcasm bit as it can get lost on forums etc but yeh the first part of the post is sarcastic and i just wanted to highlight that it isnt like a pre season amsterdam cup thing it actually takes 2 solid years of dedicated hard work to even get into it let alone win it. and also the fact that united challenge on all fronts rather than just one season after season. to win the league and the european cup (which was achieved alst year) united had to play consistently well for 51 matches (some of which were lost, yes) when liverpoo won the champions league in 2005 they finished 5th in the league and in my opinion makes a mokery of the european cup. when they got to the final 2 years later they finished 3rd, 21 points behind united again.

Im a united fan, and do not like the look fo the badge, but i wish all you stupid, head-up-their-own-arse, jelous, haters….. would shut the hell up! Egg cup? tin cup?

United won the leage, champions league, and then the world clup… proving they are the best team in the world….. lets see your team do the same.

  18. Berbs9 said,

Should be on the sleeve…it’s far too obtrusive now, unless FIFA wants to replace AIG as the sponsor.

  19. Danny said,

ooh ******* show offs anyway most man united fans are glory hunters i know 1 man united fan that lives near manchester nuff said anyway all it is is a little egg cup GET OVER IT!!!

  20. LI Matt said,

    “Why not Premier League games?”

The Premier League won’t let them.

  21. manutd said,

I can see other UCL winners fans out there complaining about this “egg cup”. Come on, it’s just because you’ve reached the finals of the world cup and didn’t win it like us!
Whe are the world champions, not you!
Go beat the south american teams first and then well talk again.

  22. Dan said,

all you united fans are sayin stuff excactly right, we won it after two years sweat and blood, then put it all in on them 2 or 3 games, maybe not boast a little bit on the shirt but what an acheivement
