Atromitos FC is a Greek club coming from the Peristeri, which is a suburb of Athens whose name in Greek translates dove or pigeon. The club has just been promoted to the top flight in Greek football: the Super League Greece; after a great season in the second division (Beta Ethniki) where the team won the league with 22 wins, 8 draws and 4 losses, and had an advantage of 5 points over runners-up PAS Giannina. The amount of points accumulated in the second division, 74 points from 34 games, is a new record in Greece. The Super League Greece is made up of 16 teams. After the first four rounds, Atromitos FC has yet to register a win, as it lost 3 games and drew one.

The club switched their kit manufacturer from Kelme to Asics, and are presently looking for a front shirt sponsor for their playing kits. The back of the shirt is sponsored by Millennium Bank, with a pink logo on the home, away and third shirts. The home shirt is vertically striped in blue and white, with a blue collar having a white patch in the middle. White home shorts with blue edges, and white socks, complete the 2009/10 home kit of Atromitos. The template used for the away and third shirts uses a vertically-halved design, and sleeves which are the opposite colour of their respective half. The away shirt has a black right-half and a pink left-half, with a pink right sleeve and a blackleft sleeve. The third shirt uses white on the right and light-blue on the left, and the colours are alternated for the sleeves. The away shirt has whtie piping on the sides and a black bottom edge, while the third shirt has dark blue piping and a dark blue bottom edge.

    I get third shirts.

I totally understand that they enable teams to wear traditional away strips without colour clashes (otherwise all away strips would be yellow, black or green).

But what I don’t understand are third strips that would clash with the home shirt. Surely, they’re just for tucking into (no doubt stonewashed) denims.
